Who do other fans want as England manager?
I’ve asked other editors on the Vital network and it seems there are mixed views on who should be the next England manager. I’ll update it as the other eds get back to me after answering the simple question, would you want Martin O’Neill as the next England manager, if not who would you choose?
Gary Stanley, Vital Swindon Town. ‘I personally would not want Martin O’Neill as England manager, The best man for the job is clearly Jose Mourinho, however I would imagine he will say thanks but no thanks. England need someone passionate, The “yes man” approach failed miserably. Stuart Pearce has worked wonders with the under 21’s. Psycho gets my vote.’
Ross Molyneux: ‘Vital Newcastle is leaning heavily towards the Marvellous Mr Mourinho.’
Hughes Da Man, Vital Blackburn, said yes, MON should be the next England manager.
Chris, Vital Bury ‘Got to be Jose Mourinho. Can deal with the media and the FA and primadonnas.’
Pompeyrug at Vital Pompey says ‘no’ to MON adding, ‘I would not be against Martin O’Neill as the next England manager, do not get me wrong, but do not think he will get it, nor will he want it? I think Fabio Coppello has said that he would take it, so I would not mind that. I just hope that ‘Fat Phil’ Scolari is not approached again – he said no before, so that should be it. People might say Harry Redknapp is not the kind of fella the FA would be looking for, but if there is a better English candidate out there I would be surprised – clearly I DO NOT want this to happen though, and pray it will not happen… I think he would get board not having the day to day involvement anyway.’
Adding, ‘Arsene Wenger would be the man I would love to see in charge, he would do something special with England – but he will not want to leave Arsenal, and I do not blame him…If he really meant it when he said in the past that he would take the England job, offer it to ‘the Special one’ right now, get him down to the FA and let those spineless cowards start saying ‘yes’ to him, not looking for someone like Spineless Steve to say ‘yes’ for them… So, after taking the long winded road round – Jose Mourinho would be my choice.’
Herringthorpe from Vital Rotherham said no to MON and yes to Jose Mourinho.
Alex Tuck, Vital Norwich said: ‘England Manger? Martin O’Neill of course…he was the right man last time!!!!!’
Dominic from Vital Everton said ‘No I wouldn’t like Martin O’Neill as England manager. I think the FA really need to go all out for the next manager; someone who is tactically astute and will help the team play attractive winning football. Unfortunately I don’t think it should be an Englishman, my preference would be Jose Mourinho.’
Vital Bolton said: ‘Do you want Martin O’Neill as England manager? No. I want Gary Megson. That way he won’t be the manager of Bolton anymore and we’ll get a nice pay off from the FA.’
Campbell_BFC at Vital Blackpool said: ‘No, I’d like Jose Mourinho’
Deeno from Vital Colchester said quite categorically, ‘No, I hate O’Neill and he hates Colchester fans! I would like Jose Mourinho’.
Andy Leggott From Vital Man City said: A foreign manager is the way to go with perhaps a second try for Scolari. I worry however that none of the big boys will be really interested as long as the Premier League dictates releases of its clubs players.”
Matt Diner from Vital Orient said simply “Mr Mourinho please!”
Mr W from Vital MKDons added, “No, I’d like Stuart Pearce”
Vital Oldham says they want ‘the special one’ However I’m not available. Oh sorry, he means ‘special’ not special needs.
Jack from Vital Stockport says: “Got to be Mourinho for me. He’s got a sound knowledge of the Premiership (which holds all the English players for those moaning that we should have quotas), he’s dominated the Prem for two of the last three years – and he’s hilarious. It would be a great move, it would make watching England fun again and for one I’d be back on the FA’s side should they actually put somebody in who has success behind him.”
And Paul Mustchin from Vital Arsenal: “I think they should have given M O’N the job in the first place, but that ship has now sailed. As long as they appoint a manager who can get me enthusiastic about international football again, the I will be very happy, because under this current regime, it’s 100% club before country for me.”
Ben, Vital Brighton: “No – Jose Mourinho!”
DJ from Vital Bournemouth “would like ‘Arry Redknapp to become England manager, simple reason really, as I’d like him to team up again with Kevin Bond
as assistant manager. Unfortunately this would mean Bond leaving Dean Court, but a handsome pay off from the FA will soften the blow”
Guinless from Vital Forest said: “The FA missed the boat last time when they failed to land to get MON, they can’t miss it again. But they probably will. He is bar none, the best British manager around.”
“No, I’d like Jose Mourinho” from Vital Hartlepool
Gerry from Vital Liverpool: Martin O’Neill for England manager? No, I’d rather see Harry Redknapp in charge.”
Henry from Vital West Ham says: “No to MON, although now Mourinho has distanced himself from the job I wouldn’t say no if it came to it. Capello and Redknapp are potential replacements, of all the candidates suggested so far I’d like to see Uncle ‘Arry take it. Steve Coppell wouldn’t be a bad choice, so really I’m sitting on the fence!”
