Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce confirmed post Burton Albion that winger Andre Green was set for a loan spell to League One side Portsmouth to get some good game time under his belt this season.

I’m not surprised by the reaction of some fans on social media, but we now live in a world where you want your cake, to eat it, but never see the cake actually diminish in size because you should never have to pay for cake again.

The 20-year-old talent heads out to Fratton Park on a loan deal described as ‘season-long’ but we have a January break clause (like all loan deals) where we can reassess our options and flame me now – this makes 100% sense to me.

With five appearances so far in 2018/19 but the majority from the substitutes bench, Green should now get the opportunity for far more consistent game time to bring on his development and turn his potential into reality with League One highs and lows.

Some of the reactions to this are hysterical and it proves how far some will go to criticise Bruce, regardless of how baseless it is.

At least some see sense.

Given Green was panned by some following Yeovil it would be fun to compare the complainers there but I really can’t be bothered. Seems the lad can’t make mistakes or put in a poor performance for us, but he can’t elsewhere because he’s so good and consistent he must be in the team.

You can’t celebrate Anwar El Ghazi and Yannick Bolasie coming in given the wide options presented by Adomah and Elmo and then moan when a sensible decision is taken to ensure a youngster gets experience for his development and doesn’t sit in the Under 23s.

I rate the lad and its 100% what he needs at this moment in time. Good luck Andre, show what you’re capable of.
