In a report in the Birmingham Mail Villa left-back Wilfred Bouma has said he would love to extend his contract at Villa after finding his form under Martin O’Neill.

The Dutch international has a one year option on his contract, if Villa don’t take up that option by April he can walk on a free in the summer. NO CHANCE!

Wilf said: ‘I have an option for an extra season, so I could have an extension for one year. But we have to know before April 30 and so there is not long left,’ he said. ‘Things are going well for me now. Who knows what will happen? I’m very happy here. My family are happy and that’s what you always look for. If you are to play good and feel good you have to be settled and this is my home now. I am very pleased with things here. But you never know.’

And on his form when he first came in 2005 (a £3.5m David O’Leary purchase from PSV Eindhoven) he admitted it took him time to settle in the Prem and he agonised over how he seemed to be struggling.

‘I couldn’t enjoy playing football because I knew I could do so much better. Now I know I am a better player than when I was in Holland. I came through that difficult time and know that I am now mentally a lot stronger because of it. And that gives you a kick.’
