Wilfred Bouma was on hand today to assist in the opening of a new children’s cancer ward at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Edgbaston.

The unit is the result of over a years hard work to develop an area for the youngsters receiving treatment to have a calming and comfortable place for them to spend their time whilst at the hospital.

Bouma told avfc.co.uk:

“You don’t usually want to be in a hospital because the atmosphere isn’t always great but when you see happy faces when you arrive it gives you a great feeling.

“I am glad I was asked to open the ward and I think it’s great that we, as a club, do community work like this.

“When you drive home, you realise how lucky you are that you, your family and kids are healthy.”
