Will Villa Match Pompey’s Spurs Bid?

Sketchy reports are suggesting that Spurs have accepted a bid from Portsmouth for England international striker Jermain Defoe.

The striker, linked to Villa for a season and a half would obviously have to agree terms.

His contract ends in 2009 and so far he has failed to agree a new deal with Spurs which led to Spurs boss Juande Ramos apparently saying he could leave.

Wonder if Villa are in the hunt and if so, will we now also slap in a similar bid giving the player the choice of clubs?

Rumours are circulating that someone is having a medical at Villa, but then, those sort of rumours would circulate wouldn’t they? I’ve certainly not been able to get any confirmation if anyone is at Bodymoor.

The transfer window doesn’t close until 12 midnight, so maybe still time for a twist and turn? What would you think if Defoe went to Pompey? If he stays at Spurs I’d not be bothered but if he was allowed to leave and we didn’t grab him, I’d be miffed, as he could shoot us into the top four in my ever so humble opinion!

It could however be the case that Villa, or more specifically Martin O’Neill, never wanted Jermain Defoe and that it was all paper talk from the start.

Funny old game!
