Wolves Take The Bragging Rights As Villa Stutter – Match Stats
Aston Villa fans were eagerly awaiting our first derby clash of the year against Wolverhampton Wanderers earlier this afternoon and recent form had them as the favourites, but there was certainly every reason for confidence given our performance against Liverpool.
Jack Grealish was once again out as he didn’t make it and we also saw Jed Steer replace Tom Heaton between the sticks, with Ezri Konsa coming in for Bjorn Engels.
It felt like it was going to be one of those days, and Steer only lasted eight minutes before finding himself substituted by Orjan Nyland. We were far from our best and the hosts made hard work of it, finally taking the lead shortly before the break. A second goal followed inside of the final ten minutes before Trezeguet grabbed us a consolation.
Finishing at 2-1 there will undoubtedly be those who feel first half we could’ve been dead and buried, but with second half improvements, we were again somewhat unfortunate to have come out with nothing to show for our efforts but there’s no denying Wolves had the better efforts on the day.
