Would Sven Be Welcome At Villa?

Well, as if things at Villa weren’t bizarre enough, it now looks like former England manager Sven Goran Eriksson might put some of his own personal wealth into a Swedish consortium to buy Aston Villa.

The Sun claim Sven would be boss if the Swedes are successful, but it is also suggested he is looking to be one of the investors.

Looks like the Sheikh might have been fake, but his interest in Villa wasn’t?

Eriksson`s business adviser Lars Sternmarker is quoted in the Sun as saying:

“Sven is interested in any club, national team or job in football involving a team that can be competitive for winning titles. I`m aware that a consortium is trying to buy Aston Villa and I will be talking to Athole Still about it.”

Villa`s Swedish defender Olof Mellberg said “It would be great if he could come to the club. I`m confident that he`s a great manager and he would be great for us.’

So what do you think? He had a good record on paper as the national boss, but we lacked the fighting spirit to go all the way and some of his decisions left him lambasted in the press. BUT, his club record is fantastic:

Swedish Cup Winners 1979
Swedish League Champions 1981
Swedish League Champions 1982
UEFA Cup Winners 1982
Portuguese League Champions 1983
Portuguese League Champions 1984
Portuguese Cup Winners 1983
Italian Cup Winners 1986
Portuguese League Champions 1991
Italian Cup Winners 1994
Italian Cup Winners 1998
Italian Super Cup Winners 1998
UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup Winners 1999
UEFA Super Cup Winners 1999
Italian League Champions 2000

I would imagine, if he came in with big money backers and attracted the stars – and lets face it, he could attract the stars, then maybe most Villa fans would be ‘ok’ about it (I could be wrong, let me know via comments and poll votes!) but what about away fans? Sven has, it is said, never liked the constant media attention by the British press, how would coming to Villa correct that situation?

Interesting times!
