And the manager-merry-go-round continues… not for long though, I think we’ll have a new boss in by next week. Some top speculation here!
Yesterdays link to Ronald Koeman is repeated a few times, see: Koeman Wants To Lead Villa To The Holy Land
Villa old boy Ian Taylor has warned Randy Lerner against the appointment of Bob Bradley He says in Daily Star : ‘All the fans I`ve spoken to want a bigger name than Bradley as the next Villa manager. The most common thing you hear from them is they want someone who has actually managed in the league – and knows what the Premier League is all about.’ Adding that although he’s done well for the USA national team, he wouldn’t have the knowledge of the Premier League.
The Daily Mail say that ‘USA manager Bob Bradley will need special Premier League dispensation if Aston Villa want him to be their next manager.’
Ok, all well and good, agree with the quotes and all very interesting in the Daily Mail about special permissions. APART FROM THE FACT Bob Bradley IS NOT IN CONTENTION. Not in a month of Sundays. Disbelieve me all you wish, he isn’t going to be our next boss.
Ian Taylor also says of another manager linked, Gareth Southgate: ‘Gareth is a great guy and a good mate of mine. He will probably hate me for saying that I don`t want him to get the job. I haven`t spoken to him so I don`t know if he would want it – but I think it might be a bit too soon for Gareth. Maybe it would be something he could do later on when he has a bit more experience.’
Taylor says he would love to see Martin Jol in the job. Not going to happen though is it? Jol is too decent a man to walk out of a club this early on in the season.
The Mirror say Jurgen Klinsmann is on top of the list of candidates. They say the former German international manager began a ‘revolution’ in German football bring the kids through. He is quoted from a recent interview saying the next move is important for him: ‘I want to work with people that do it for the right reasons. I want to fit into an environment that kind of shares my philosophy, and my philosophy is an attacking style of football. That`s just the way I think, and it`s how I built the German team for the 2006 World Cup over two years, which was highly criticised over a long stretch of time, and then they embraced it.’
The report by Ralph Ellis says Klinsmann had begun a behind-the-scenes revolution improving Bayern Munich`s youth structure before falling out with directors who were impatient for first-team results. He was sacked even though the team were just three points off the top of the Bundesliga.
The People say that former Liverpool boss Gerard Houllier is a contender. They claim Randy would like Martin Jol or David Moyes but they aren’t as readily available as Houllier who has been out of a managers role since leaving Lyon in 2007.
Houllier won the Uefa Cup, FA Cup and League Cup for Liverpool during his spell at Anfield.
The report also quotes Villa skipper Petrov: ‘You can see that other teams are getting stronger – everybody is trying to compete. But we haven`t and we need to try to strengthen before the transfer window closes. And we need the managerial situation sorted out.’
Walesonline have Cardiff City manager Dave Jones saying he is flattered at being linked with Aston Villa. I hadn’t realised he had been? ‘Speculation will happen and I`m not going to lie and say that when people bandy your name around it`s a really nice feeling. But I`m just getting on with my job and what will be, will be. You never say never in football. I might do well or results might go against me.’
