The penultimate award was to find the Young Player of the Season.

Craig Gardner polled no votes but to be fair only appeared very late on in the season.

Gabriel Agbonlahor polled a mystifyingly low 1% as I think he could well be the cream of the crop. The lad looks like a total star to me. Lets just hope we keep this raw talent.

Liam Ridgewell polled 3% and seems to have divided fans as to whether he will remain a regular Premiership central defender. I think we all need to realise that the jump up from reserves to first team action is a massive one and if we are forced to rely on the youth then they are going to make mistakes as they learn their trade. A bit of patience from us all is required!

James Milner who was on a season long loan from Newcastle United, polled 14%. O’Leary is desperate to tie Milner to a permanent deal with mixed reports as to whether Newcastle will sell him and whether Villa have the money to buy him. Lets just hope the rumours that Gareth Barry might be used as part of a swap deal are wide of the mark.

Luke Moore, who scored 8 Premiership goals and was our highest Premiership scorer before being strangely dropped by David O’Leary, got 25% of the vote.

The winner by a country mile was Steven Davis with 57% of the votes. This is the player that David O’Leary told the press he had no choice but to play due to the lack of strength and depth in the team (despite loaning his midfield signing Mathieu Berson to Auxerre and refusing to play his other signing Djemba-Djemba) only to say to the press a while later that it was HIM that discovered Davis, whilst the rest of the youth set up were pointing to other players. Sugarbag! Davis on the other hand has been a hit this season and signed a new long term deal following strong links to Manchester United. Still, as we are a selling club, all bids are usually accepted. A star for the future, but still needs patience as he does get muscled out against the more physical teams.
