Luke Young has said he will continue to play through the pain barrier for the remaining two games in order to help secure us that 5th place finish.

Speaking to the Express and Star our spirited right back, left back, emergency centre back explained that he is still battling the foot injury that caused him to withdraw from the England squad back in February and that he’s been struggling with his fitness ever since.

“There`s still bone bruising so you can`t get much treatment for it, it`s an injury I can`t get rid of.’

We have known for a few weeks that Young has been playing with the aide of painkilling injections, but what he really needs is a prolonged rest. You just have to hope that playing the final two games doesn’t have any adverse effects, or God forbid he picks up an additional injury.

Explaining the cause of his foot problems, he said:

“I did it during a defence versus attack training session out in Dubai. Marlon had the ball, I tried to smash it away and caught the bottom of his studs. I couldn`t play for the next few days but I just thought nothing of it.

“At times it`s been OK and at others it`s been pretty poor. It`s been a slog. I`ve been waking up every day and wondering if I can train. I`ve been going out there and annoying the coaching staff by saying ‘sorry, it`s no good` and spending two days on a running machine and then trying to train when I can.”

The summer can’t come soon enough for our defence to be fair, we’ve had Young carrying his foot since February and Curtis Davies has been playing with a wonky shoulder for weeks aswell.
