Zat Knight Sold… What IS Going On?!??!

I’ve got to admit, I’m confused. I thought Villa were looking to build a squad?

Well, maybe we are, but in that building process they’ve sold Zat Knight – bought by Martin O’Neill from Fulham – to Bolton Wanderers.

The move has been confirmed on the Bolton site with Gary Megson saying ‘Zat has plenty of Premier League experience and has played at the highest level with England.’

The Mirror this morning said that Zat flew out with the Villa squad to Spain, then had to fly home to seal the deal and then jetted off with Bolton to Holland last night on their pre-season tour.

So now we are 2 defenders down following the retirement of Martin Laursen.

Now, I never thought we should have bought Zat in the first place, he was average at Fulham and proved similar at Villa apart from a few decent games last season. However, especially after we sold Gary Cahill a fine defender and top prospect, surely at the very least Zat gave us squad presence whilst we are so low on numbers?

Increasingly confusing this football lark, maybe Villa have two defenders lined up and all will make sense. Don’t think the purchase and sale within a season or two policy that MON seems to have will ever make sense mind you.

Our poll yesterday asked ‘should Villa sell Zat Knight?’

56% said no, keep him as a squad member.

30% voted yes, if the reported £4.5m is correct. 9% followed through saying yes, at any price!

Only 4% considered him good enough to keep as a 1st team and 1% were unsure.

Baffling… or will the cunning plan all become clear in the days and weeks to come?!
