Aston Villa have announced the first (hopefully of many) signings in the January transfer window.

It`s a loan from Manchester United.

AVFC.co.uk say the signing of the 23-year-old goalkeeper Sam Johnstone is until the end of the season.

The usual positive quotes follow…

He told the official site: “I`m really pleased to have joined Aston Villa – it`s a massive club. I`m really excited to be here. Aston Villa were interested and it`s an opportunity I jumped at. It`s one you simply can`t turn down.”

Adding, “I can`t wait to get going now.”

You can see from this en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sam_Johnstone page that he does have some experience from previous loan spells.

I have no clue about it, but didn`t we need a fully experienced keeper? Gollini came with lofty talk but hasn`t really followed that up as yet? Anyone know about Sam?

Well, he`s decent according to a report in the Birmingham Mail:

Johnstone is a commanding goalkeeper who plays with the confidence and swagger of someone befitting of the most successful club in the land. The 6ft3in shot-stopper is equally comfortable in one-on-one situations and has decent distribution, which is something you expect from a ‘keeper schooled at the top. • We’re all going to be guessing on this one, I’d be surprised if anyone on here has actually seen him play. Lets start getting some midfielders in please Tony

  • Would be good if so Krf… doubt it with Man Utd but who knows? I like the words confidence and swagger from the Brum Mail report I must say.

  • Gary half the players we looking at are salifwhos, that’s the thing when you drop down a league. I don’t even play fantasy football anymore.

  • Reading the Vital Preston assessment put on this site earlier had him as a decent goalie, but still prone to mistakes. Great distribution, but not the greatest shot-stopper. Hope he comes good and has improved. I think I am in the minority, butmust say I

  • Utd have stated that he must get playing time, Part of the loan arrangement apparently. So he will possibly come in pretty quickly as first choice keeper. There lies the rub. We drop Gollini for Bunn, then we drop Bunn for Johnstone. Then in a few months
