Aston Villa have announced the first (hopefully of many) signings in the January transfer window.

It`s a loan from Manchester United.

AVFC.co.uk say the signing of the 23-year-old goalkeeper Sam Johnstone is until the end of the season.

The usual positive quotes follow…

He told the official site: “I`m really pleased to have joined Aston Villa – it`s a massive club. I`m really excited to be here. Aston Villa were interested and it`s an opportunity I jumped at. It`s one you simply can`t turn down.”

Adding, “I can`t wait to get going now.”

You can see from this en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sam_Johnstone page that he does have some experience from previous loan spells.

I have no clue about it, but didn`t we need a fully experienced keeper? Gollini came with lofty talk but hasn`t really followed that up as yet? Anyone know about Sam?

Well, he`s decent according to a report in the Birmingham Mail:

Johnstone is a commanding goalkeeper who plays with the confidence and swagger of someone befitting of the most successful club in the land. The 6ft3in shot-stopper is equally comfortable in one-on-one situations and has decent distribution, which is something you expect from a ‘keeper schooled at the top.
