The Supporters’ player of the season, James Chester, has become the first Aston Villa outfield player to remain ever-present in a season since Jlloyd Samuel in 2003/04.

Jlloyd. Now that is a blast from the past. So much promise, then he just seemed to fade without a trace didn’t he? Although actually, looking at his Wiki, he was with us longer than I remembered.

And back to Chester:

What an incredibly consistent player he has been. I do fear, if we don’t get up to the Premier League for next season, James Chester will.

Good point in this tweet as well, Jlloyd was playing in the Premiership so had less games to get through:

As Mike Field said in the following article:

Consistent Chester Gets The Villa Seal Of Approval

Some in the Aston Villa camp raised an eyebrow or two when James Chester made his £8million switch from West Bromwich Albion in August 2016.

The eyebrow from memory was more signing him from the Baggies where he had tended to play more as a fullback for Tony Pulis and whilst he was steady, he was hardly spectacular in many minds. Others were more than happy with the signing owing to Wales’ fantastic run in the 2016 European Championships and the performances he put in for them.

I must admit, for me, I think Chester should have been named in the EFL Team of the Season instead of John Terry, not that I have anything at all against JT.

But at least he was recognised at the Aston Villa end of season awards as the Supporters’ Player Of The Season.
