And another win! We like these don`t we, been such a long time since we`ve had them regularly as well!

Aston Villa v Burton Albion Three things we learned.

1) You cannot take any team lightly.

I never felt we were in danger of not getting something out of the game. But yesterday was about more than just getting ‘something`. It was a home game against a struggling team. The sort of game over the last four or five seasons, we`d have blown. With the momentum we have at the moment, the last thing we needed was a draw, let alone a loss (as said, I never feared that throughout). Especially as we were going for a 28 year old record, six wins in a row. It was nice that we had that extra bit of spice to play for. But I did feel that we weren`t fully at them yesterday. I hope – surely not – our players didn`t just expect an easy game? We need to be snapping at the opposition heels. You give any team at this level time on the ball and they will have a chance of doing something with it.

Nice though, that I didn’t feel we were totally at it and we still got a win. In fact, two up, it looked like we were cruising. We probably would have if not for the rather strange own goal by Elmo!

We`ll have to be more ‘up and at them` next week in the local derby v Blues.

I said to my dad that if we played with tempo, Burton Albion wouldn`t be able to live with us and sure enough, that`s what happened with:

2) Our first goal was a thing of beauty.

Momentum, forward passing, crisp running. Bish, bash, bosh. Goal. Steve Bruce was delighted with that goal, (from my vantage point sitting right by the bench) and rightly so.

They are playing like a team now, not a team of individuals. The understanding is there. At last. At long, long, last.

3) Alan Hutton is a model professional.

Even though Alan has been told he won`t be getting a new contract, which must have disappointed him no end, you would never have told yesterday as once again he put in a gritty and determined performance. The guy is a model professional. I respect him massively for his attitude during his up and down time at Aston Villa and would very much like to shake his hand and say thank you before he departs, even if it is only via an article!!
