I tend to treat all reports coming from Turkey with a healthy dose of scepticism, but plenty in the Aston Villa fanbase have become incredibly excited this week after we were linked with a raid on Galatasaray for striker Mbaye Diagne.

The 27-year-old striker wouldn’t necessarily suit what we’ve heard from head coach Dean Smith and Suso in terms of our signing profile, but with a report from Aksam suggesting that he may be available for only £11million, the Senegalese international could fall into the Jota box given his age.

Whilst he has failed to score for his country in ten appearances, but his goalscoring record at club level speaks for itself. His 12 months with Kasimpasa saw him return 32 goals in 34 Super Lig matches, and having made the switch to Galatasaray last January, he scored ten in 12 for them.

Those two spells see him hold 103 goals in 166 appearances across all competitions across his career and it appears the excitement comes directly from those stats, but could he replicate it in the Premier League? That said, with a goal return like that it’s an incredibly strange price.
