Marc Albrighton burst onto the scene this season, exciting fans with his pace, crossing and ‘never say die’ attitude. Yet instead of telling everyone how good he is like some of his fellow wingers at the club, he prefers to sing the praises of his mate Eric Lichaj.
Lichaj, who has started six times for the club is well thought of by his team-mate Albrighton, who said ‘It’s been great playing in front of Eric over the years for the youth team, reserves and first team too. I have been doing it for years.
‘To do it on the top flight stage has been fantastic. We both know what it is about – we know each other’s strengths and weaknesses and help each other out throughout matches’.
Albrighton believes Eric to be ‘an old head on young shoulders’ and describes him as an ‘absolutely unbelievable attacking right back’.
Now I must admit, personally I don’t see it and remain unconvinced of Lichaj’s ability to perform at the highest level. In my opinion the best players are pushing for starting places at 19 or 20 but not 22 or 23, as he will be a couple of months into next season.
However, I am happy to be proven wrong and I hope Eric steps up to the first team and saves us alot money this summer, but only if he is genuinely good enough of course!
