Richard Sydenham at www.dailystar.co.uk repeats the nice easy link to Norwich striker Grant Holt who is looking to leave Norwich City.

Interestingly in this report, former Villa great Allan Evans says Holt would be a good signing BUT NOT at the expense of Darren Bent.

100% agreed! Bent could feed very nicely off Grant Holt in my ever so humble.

The report says that Holt would be available for around £3million but then, haven`t other reports said that Norwich have turned down a £4.5million bid for him from West Ham?

Holt is said to be on around £15k a week at the moment, so obviously could get a nice pay day moving and still if doubled, that would be within a decent wage range for Villa.

The report also says that Lambert has a transfer kitty around £20million plus if he sells players, he can use those funds as well.

Evans says quality is needed and “If he signed Holt that would be a very good acquisition because he scores goals. You need three top strikers to be competitive. We saw Villa struggle to score last season when Bent got injured. Lambert knows Holt and managers like to sign players they know they can trust and that would be the case there.”

Adding “Gabby Agbonlahor is a bit too hit and miss in front of goal.”

And on Bent, he said if you sold him for £20million, you`d only have to spend the same sort of amount to replace him so why bother!?

Striker Bent cost £24m and Evans is dead against selling him to raise more funds.

He also added “They`re also crying out for a creative midfielder, like Gordon Cowans. I watched them last season on TV and I was bored. It pains me to say that but it`s true.”

As we mentioned in the article: Transfer Talk! Grant Holt Linked To Villa!

He has tweeted recently re: transfer request etc. The third makes little sense to be fair!

‘Can I just say the rumours about me and the gaffer falling out are very wrong so no more tweets about that please.’

‘Just to stop the rumour mill again. I have expressed to the board and the CEO that I want to leave the football club. Due to disagreements’

‘I have loved my 3 years at the club and it sadness me to right this but want use to here it from me first. #lovedmytime’

Comments from Vital Villans so far on the link:

Not sure about that one. He’s had one good season in the EPL, but that doesn’t mean a second is to follow. We need proven quality that does the business time and time again. Defoe for me I think. He’s looking bored at Spurs and given what’s available at the moment he looks like a great shout. jsmccue

Get Holt in – get rid of ‘I’ll bet on the keeper every time if its 1 on 1″ Agbonlahor and refresh the team please Mat777

No thanks. Lazy journalism. Holt is 31 and not what we should be looking at. I’m sure Lambert (if he comes) will want to play a big fella up top because it’s his style of play but I’m equally sure he’ll be able to find better than Holt. There’s also no way that anyone outside the club knows the transfer budget, I’d be amazed if it wasn’t higher than the number quoted as McLeish had that much, but subject to salary cap and some caveats on the type of player (young, resale value etc etc) AVbornandbred

Holt as a direct replacement for Heskey? No problem with that, younger and more importantly scores goals. I’m always concerned about blocking younger players progress but if they’re good enough that shouldn’t be the case. Stephen Jay Hawkings

Are people really moaning about the possibility of one of the top scorers of the Prem last season joining us? Really? Steff_the_Villan
