Columbian and Villa striker Juan Pablo Angel has set his sights on Europe and thinks Villa can achieve it this year.

Angel, who it has to be said looks a different player this season, despite missing a golden opportunity against Watford from just six yards out, said:

‘I think we’ve got the right man in charge to do it. He’s been doing it for many years at Celtic and I can’t see why we’re not capable of getting into Europe this year. It’ll be a great opportunity. Since I’ve been here the club has been up and down, up and down. We have to start getting consistency. A good football club is challenging for Europe every year. Everyone here wants to do that.’

Adding on his own form, ‘I definitely feel I can recapture my form of three seasons ago. If I’m playing well and getting good service and opportunities I’m more than capable of putting them away. It’s all about confidence and I’m playing with confidence now. It’s up to me to perform and keep my place on the team.’

Certainly is down to service, but he also does have to bury the ball in the back of the net when he gets the right cross!

He also isn’t short on praise for Martin O’Neill saying: ‘The atmosphere here is different. It’s as if everything has just clicked again. The spirit is good. The togetherness is back again and I think we missed that a lot over the past two seasons. Everyone is playing with an extra bit of confidence. The results have gone our way too, which is important. You build up confidence by getting results and the first five games have been great for the team. But there’s still a long way to go. Hopefully the good times will come.’

Sounds like a completely different dressing room doesn’t it?

Five unbeaten and the chance to make some progress in the League Cup v Scunthorpe this week, can’t be bad!
