Ashton Villa? Reports in today’s Mirror are claiming that David O’Leary will make a £3million bid for Norwich City’s striker Dean Ashton in the transfer window.

The report also suggests the Villa boss may have some competition from cross city rivals Birmingham as Steve Bruce is said to be a big admirer of the player as well. Both clubs certainly need to bolster their firing power having made awful starts to the season.
Ashton, an England Under-21 international, proved he could cut it at the top level last season when Norwich were in the Premiership. The former Crewe striker also impressed many people in the footballing world by saying he would stay with Norwich to help them return to the premiership instead of jumping ship.

However with the Canaries languishing in 16th in the Championship, a bid from Villa might just tempt him. Under pressure manager Nigel Worthington is keen to keep hold of the 22 year old striker, but it may prove very difficult to keep him at Carrow Road.
