Well, I’ve been waiting for this one, it was only a matter of time, as I’ve mentioned several times since the transfer window opened!

A report by Andrew Dillon in The Sun says Villa are set to enter the bidding for former 28-year-old Portsmouth and England striker Peter Crouch.

The former Villa, Liverpool and Southampton striker is said to be available to around £12million with Sunderland also trying to grab his services, although this report claims they don’t want to pay over £10million.

With this skill, how could we not re-sign him?

The Sun are another paper to claim that John Carew’s future at Villa is uncertain. Errr, no it isn’t Villa want him, he wants to be at Villa, where is the uncertainty?

The same report links us with 28-year-old Fulham centre-half Brede Hangelaand. The Norway captain has been offered a new deal at Craven Cottage but he’s turned it down.

The Mirror have an exclusive saying Villa will swoop for Sporting Lisbon’s 23-year-old Miguel Veloso after Bolton failed with an £8million bid. They quote the player who can play as a defender or in the centre of midfield: ‘I am prepared to move abroad – but I don’t want things in doubt for the entire summer.’

wiki: Click Here oh hang on a minute, this has already been covered!!! Full details and video: Villa’s Press Talk + Portugal International Linked So how on earth is that an exclusive Mr Mirror Man Reporter?!

Last night’s gossip was that we are set to sign Spurs winger and former Blackburn and Arsenal player David Bentley.

The Birmingham Mail also linked us again to West Ham’s Matthew Upson, Portsmouth’s Sylvain Distin and Manchester United’s Wes Brown.

+ There were links to two South American’s. Full details, wiki and video: South American Invasion At Villa + Other Links!

Ruud van Nistelrooy is apparently still available, Blackburn Rovers boss Sam Allardyce is being linked. Hmmmm.

  • Would crouch,distin/campbell,bentley/veloso/tuncay,miguel be such a bad window?Add any combo there plus a couple of others to what we already have and we would be in good shape. But i don`t think o`neill is in for a striker,He said as much last season.Gaby, carew, heskey and the fonz backed up by a stronger defence and a more creative midfield will serve us well.

  • I am getting that love hate feeling about the transfer window again. So excited but you know most of the stuff wont happen. I really hope Hangeland is a reality, he is a top class defender. I’d like to see veloso and bentley come in too and perhaps a couple of wing backs. As for the numerous strikers we are linked with, I wouldnt mind not getting one, Gabs and Carew is a strong little and large partnership, Heskey and the delf are strong back-up.

  • must admit I like the transfer windows londonbased… don’t know why, I just like all the daft reports etc!

  • No, no, no, no, a thousand times no to signing Peter Crouch! (awful)
Yes, yes, yes, yes, a thousand times yes to signing Brede Hangeland! (a rock)

  • We need a pacey clinical striker and have done for years. Its the only area MON hasnt spent decent money on so I expect an 8m+ striker to arrive this window.

  • what do you think about signing crouch then astonguerrilla, can’t quite make out your post!?

Ah, I see what you’ve done there Matt777… very clever! :o)))

  • From “The Sun School of Headline writing” I think a certain Vital Villan went there too

  • The thing about Crouch is that he is without a doubt a lot better than he looks like he should be, but still not as good as people sometimes say he is. He’s a clever player who has a good eye for a goal, but his physical stature let’s him down immensly (I should know this as I am just an inch shorter than him and I am also slight of build which on occasion leaves me looking like bambi when I play football on a wednesday!). When he mucks up it’s just embarrassing to watch. If he’s wearing a Villa shirt next season I can see my mates aiming their ridicule at me everytime he produces one these regular gangly blunders.

Then again if we sign him, he might be our top scorer and leave me and a few other Villa fans with egg on our faces, and that’s the kind of egg I don’t mind having rubbed in my face. But there a lot’s of strikers out there that could bang in as many goals as him in a season for us, and they wouldn’t put me through all that ridicule!

  • Croucher is an example of how an average player can be given a shot in an England Jersey when there is noone else available. Yes his goals per game for england is great but even I could score against Kahzakstan (Is Nice!) – Villa are moving forward and temporary solutions like Crouch and even Heskey to a certain extent aren’t what we need, youth and potential are exciting – like the links to Marcus Berg – yes experience is good for the squad but croucher is not what we need…

  • I’m sure I don’t know what you mean Mat777, good day to you sir (he says walking off in a huff!!!!!)

  • I am getting fed up of so many links with nothing actually happening. The Press know we need a centre back after losing our best one, and they know we need to replace Barry, so they simply link us with any central midfield players and centre backs. Of course one time they will be right! Doesn’t pre-season traning begin in 2 days time?

  • Crouch and Heskey leading the Villa line? Lol! All we need is Stanley Mathew and Nat Lofthouse to complete the Nostalgia XI team.

  • I think Crouch confuses defences as you can never tell what he is going to do because of the way he looks so clumbsy but he does have a good touch on the ball as long as it isn’t just hoofed up to him…. ah, maybe therein lies the problem!?
