Well, I’ve been waiting for this one, it was only a matter of time, as I’ve mentioned several times since the transfer window opened!

A report by Andrew Dillon in The Sun says Villa are set to enter the bidding for former 28-year-old Portsmouth and England striker Peter Crouch.

The former Villa, Liverpool and Southampton striker is said to be available to around £12million with Sunderland also trying to grab his services, although this report claims they don’t want to pay over £10million.

With this skill, how could we not re-sign him?

The Sun are another paper to claim that John Carew’s future at Villa is uncertain. Errr, no it isn’t Villa want him, he wants to be at Villa, where is the uncertainty?

The same report links us with 28-year-old Fulham centre-half Brede Hangelaand. The Norway captain has been offered a new deal at Craven Cottage but he’s turned it down.

The Mirror have an exclusive saying Villa will swoop for Sporting Lisbon’s 23-year-old Miguel Veloso after Bolton failed with an £8million bid. They quote the player who can play as a defender or in the centre of midfield: ‘I am prepared to move abroad – but I don’t want things in doubt for the entire summer.’

Last night’s gossip was that we are set to sign Spurs winger and former Blackburn and Arsenal player David Bentley.

The Birmingham Mail also linked us again to West Ham’s Matthew Upson, Portsmouth’s Sylvain Distin and Manchester United’s Wes Brown.

Ruud van Nistelrooy is apparently still available, Blackburn Rovers boss Sam Allardyce is being linked. Hmmmm.
