I’m not a great lover of ratings, and the way they bottled it in the second half didn’t help either. But for what it’s worth….(not much, I hear you cry):

Johnstone – 6 – didn’t really have a great deal to do, felt he could have done a bit better for the first goal. Much more assured in his kicking and general play than recent keepers.

Hutton – 6 – full of energy as ever and got into good positions on a number of occasions. Shame he has a complete and utter inability to cross a football.

Amavi – 5 – bang average, ball delivery was shocking today and out of position way too often.

Chester – 6 – didn’t have much to do, but when it mattered, didn’t do it. Not really a skipper for me, too quiet for my liking.

Baker – 7 – performed better than the rest of the defence but still not sure how they had two attempts and scored two goals. Whoever was supposed to be marking their bloke for the second goal needs to have a word with themselves.

Westwood – 5 – playing at the very limits of his abilities. Decent shot over the bar first half, got forward plenty. Second half, nada, and even more anonymous when Lansbury went off.

Lansbury – 7.5 – promising debut. Wanted the ball, got forward well and good engine to get around the pitch. Free kicks not great but I though his corners were far more dangerous than the usual shite we have had to endure. At least he beats the first man every time.

Adomah – 7.5 – two goals (although one nicked it has to be said). Works hard, takes on his man, just a shame he can’t truly beat his man, and generally ends up down blind alleys. Covered well when Hutton got out of position, which was often.

Green – 8 – MOTM for me, even though he didn’t pull up too many trees. Worked hard, looked confident and tried to make things happen. A run of games will see good things start to happen for him (and for us) I would suggest.

Grealish – 4 – to put it politely, I thought the boy had a mare. Good pass to Gabby for the first goal, but so often passes went nowhere near their intended target. Too lightweight, shirks challenges and goes down far too easily for my liking. Just a bad day at the office? Maybe, but needs to get his act together pretty soon. I’m surprised he lasted almost the whole game he was so woeful.

Agbonlahor – 6.5 – worked much harder today than I’ve seen for a few years to be fair. But rarely looks threatening and even though he deserved the first goal, his first touch was appalling and his second a tackle which he was lucky to get away with. Just not good enough if we’re serious about where we want to go.

Subs:

Bacuna – 5 – didn’t do a great deal wrong or right – average. Either he or Tshibola should have come on earlier than 2-2 in my opinion.

Gardner – 5 – as above. And the incoming player in a bizarre substitution which resulted in Bacuna heading to left-back. Weird.

Davis – not on long enough to rate, not sure why he even came on at all!

Match rating – 7 – entertaining enough, but an air of inevitability about what would happen as the game wore on.

Manager rating – 5 – not impressed with the team selection quite frankly, and yet again, bizarre substitutions with the last one being utterly pointless.
