Fans Are Asked What They’d Fork Out For Reliable Stopper
With Aston Villa having secured their Play-Off spot for 2017/18, we need a few more final pushes to ensure we return to the Premier League.
The topic of Sam Johnstone is one which interests us all. The on-loan Manchester United man has been in fine form this season for us, keeping 20 clean sheets across the season and he’s certainly impressed many with his efforts between the sticks. Whilst he hasn’t strictly come out come out and said his future will be at Villa Park next season – irrespective of promotion – his words imply he’s certainly not against that as an outcome this summer as having tasted regular action in the last few seasons whilst on loan, he won’t want to return to Old Trafford and not even warm the first team bench.
Press this week claim that Villa are desperate to sign Johnstone (as well as Robert Snodgrass and Lewis Grabban)
Three Players Reportedly on Aston Villa’s Summer Transfer ‘Short List’
Our colleagues at FootballLeagueWorld posted the following on Twitter the other day.
If we don't go up, I have the feeling Sam will. His distribution at times is a little off, but for a young keeper especially, he's been outstanding. Had a shout for our player of the season I thought.

I guess The Fear sums up many a fans’ thoughts in his response and it’s well known the majority want him to remain with us as he will only get better with greater experience and games under his belt.
The questions are if we go up what would tempt Jose Mourinho to cash in knowing he has to create funds to reshape his United squad given the way the Blue of Manchester have run away with the Premier League title. If we don’t go up, could we afford the fee necessary with Financial Fair Play biting?
His stats for the season are:

For all intents and purposes from what we know, we won’t be in a position to get the likes of Robert Snodgrass back even on a loan deal, let alone pay the couple of million that would be required for Johnstone to even debate whether he’d have a second year in the Championship or try his luck elsewhere in the top flight.

Whatever it takes. It's not my money. Great young keeper.

Sam has been class and I'm not worried about his distribution stat as we are a long ball team under Bruce so Sam has to kick it long and unless Davis is playing we have no real target man, so I think his stats would rocket in a team who play it on the deck.
