Earlier this week Aston Villa started announcing our pre-season warm-up schedule ahead of the 2018/19 Championship campaign.

Games against Telford United, Kidderminster Harriers, Walsall and Dynamo Dresden were the four games announced and we continued with our usual theme of local early games, with Dresden the standout name as we presumably take in a mini training camp out in Germany.

Four Aston Villa Pre-Season Games Announced – Does Anyone Care At The Minute?

With all the financial revelations that have also come out this week, I’d imagine few will quibble with a cheaper and more local aspect to our plans this season as we look to right a few wrongs and put ourselves on a firmer financial footing.

Today saw the announcement of an additional friendly.

We will tackle last season’s Championship opponents Burton Albion on Saturday, July 21. The game at the Pirelli Stadium will kick off at 3pm and goes under the moniker of the Bass Charity Vase game, which is designed to help raise funds for local good causes and is an annual event staged by the Brewers.

Ticket prices for the match will range from £5 to £15 and will go on sale as the game nears.

Our schedule so far:

Telford United – Saturday 14th July
New Bucks Head – 3pm – Split Team

Kidderminster Harriers – Saturday 14th July
Aggborough Stadium – 3pm – Split Team

Walsall – Tuesday 17th July
Banks’s Stadium – 7.45pm

Burton Albion – Saturday 21st July
Pirelli Stadium – 3pm

Dynamo Dresden – Saturday 28th July
Stadion Dresden – 2pm (local time)

You would think they’ll be at least another two announcements to take us to seven, but I guess ongoing pitch renovations will dictate whether or not there’s a home friendly this season. With games being more local based though and, for now, less time abroad, that might actually help reinvigorate the fans ahead of the new season even if the opposition is pretty well known to us.
