After missing our match against Liverpool after suffering a training ground injury, Barry made a surprise return to the team yeserday against Blackburn.

He would’ve no doubt preferred more than a point for his return, but we should still be happy that we haven’t lost points again.

Speaking on the official site today, Barry said:

‘I was gutted to miss the Liverpool game and I was obviously delighted to be back against Blackburn.

‘Nigel came in as skipper at Anfield in my absence and did a superb job. I thought he was tremendous and that’s no surprise because he was skipper at West Ham and for England under-21s too.

‘It’s important to have leaders all over the pitch and we’ve certainly got that here.’

Barry also took the opportunity to again thank the fans for their support this season.

‘Someone informed me the other day that average attendances at Villa Park are at their highest for 58 years. That’s an amazing statistic.

‘I’m certainly proud to be associated with a team that is drawing such tremendous support.

‘I would like to thank all the fans for coming every week. You make a big difference and all the lads hope to see you as the rest of the season unfolds.’

So 5 odd days left of the transfer window, now the anticpation kicks in, and depending on how it goes it will be reflected in forthcoming attendances.
