The club have announced that former Liverpool and Portsmouth midfielder Patrik Berger has joined Championship outfit Stoke City on loan until January 4.

No news on fellow Stoke loanee Lee Hendrie being re-called, so Berger could line up with his fellow midfielder at the Britannia Stadium this weekend against the Baggies.

This surely spells the end of a failed Villa career for the 33-year-old former Czech Republic star? The signing by David O’Leary never made sense anyway, if he wasn’t good enough to last a whole match for Portsmouth, why would it have been any different at Villa? Shame, because in his prime, he was top class.

  • too old, dont think he will be missed. Is stoke becoming the new middlesborough (Villa player recycling centre).
