Young Villa defender Gary Cahill has returned to fitness after playing over an hour in the reserves 0-0 draw with Bolton.

In a very Monty Python esque manner, the central defender said it was good to ‘look on the bright side of life’, unfortunately – and he really should have – he didn’t add, la la, la la, la la la la la laaaa. Or is that just me?

Cahill has missed four months with an ankle injury which must have been a real blow because with our crisis in the defence he would have been very likely to get a chance in the first team.

He told the official site: ‘I like to look at the positives when it comes to injury. It’s never good to get an injury that rules you out for a long time but hopefully I’ve got all of them out of the way now. If this is the last major one of my career I’ll be delighted. My ambition now is to play games on a regular basis. I’ve missed such a large amount of the season, that has to be my aim now.’

He also said: ‘I was delighted to put the claret and blue shirt back on.’ You don’t need to say anymore than that really, I wish all our players could remember what a privilege it is to put on the mighty claret and blue shirts on!
