19-year-old defender Stephen O’Halloran has been added to Villa’s first-team squad and given the No29 shirt having returned from his three-month loan spell at Wycombe Wanderers.
Martin O’Neill said: ‘I think Stephen did well at Wycombe, very well. Obviously there are things to improve him, but I would certainly not dismiss him. Really you’re looking towards next season for him.’
O’Halloran said recently he was looking to push on:
‘I had a great time at Wycombe and the experience really gave me a taste of first-team football. It also made me appreciate the chance I’ve got here at Villa.’
‘Now I just want to get my head down and play well for the reserves. If I can do that, hopefully I’ll catch the manager’s eye and then we’ll see what happens. Gary Cahill and Liam Ridgewell were in my position not so long ago and look at them now – both regulars in the first-team.’
O’Halloran has travelled with the squad for the Barcodes clash tonight.
