rdunbar100 has left a post in the forum which I thought was worthy of front paging:
I have just read a report regarding Craig Gardner providing his old Sunday league club with kits and training equipment.
What a fantastic gesture that this player has made, it shows that not all of them let the fact that they are now millionaires (or on the way to being) destroy their sense of pride at where they started.
It also goes on to say he has bought a piece of land by his new house so that the kids in the village have a football pitch, as there was nothing there for them.
I would like to congratulate Craig for this wonderful gesture and tell him what a credit he is to the club and fans.

Exactly what a player should do. I remember reading that the Reading player De La Cruz had used his wages to redevelop the entire village that he was from. I think it’s right that they give something back and they do deserve credit for it. Well done Craig.
What a great role model. His attitude on and off the pitch is 100%. Up the Villa!
De La Cruz also ex-Villa LOZ, so looks like we breed em with a heart at Villa Park! Allegedly the rumour goes that ex-Villain Stan Collymore also used some of his millions to buy a car park in the middle of a forest near his house – don’t know what that was for though?
What a great gesture ! A credit to the club .
Gardner will be a legend
good lad, very refreshing
Cant share young_jonah’s optimism about Craigs long term Villa Park future I’m afraid, despite the fact that I feel he’s a very decent footballer. I think that with the competition for places that we now have in our midfield, Craig may have to move on to realise his dream of regular first team football.
Certainly hats-off to the young man though (Craig Gardner not young_jonah), for his terrific gesture.
