Fulham’s new boy Steven Davis wants a good reception when he returns to Villa Park on August 25 with the Cottagers (an unfortunate nickname to say the least!) The Northern Ireland international midfielder told the Birmingham Mail:

‘It was the first fixture I looked out for. I know a lot of people throughout Villa – from the physios and the rest of the backroom staff to the folk in the offices. I’m even thinking about my old landlord and landlady in Wylde Green who I lived with for four years. So it will be nice to go back and I hope to get a good reception. I didn’t leave on bad terms. The decision to go was not made half-heartedly.’

He also says he wants to thank the fans as he wasn’t able to say goodbye adding that he has no regrets having fallen down the pecking order following the arrival of Martin O’Neill.

‘I have a lot of fond memories. A lot of the same set of youth players came through to the senior ranks together and that made it even more enjoyable. It is sad to go but I have got to get my career back on track. Last year was very disappointing. I had a chat with Martin O’Neill and wasn’t given any real assurances about my future.’

Adding that the decision was difficult but with Lawrie Sanchez wanting to take him to Fulham, he thought it a good move.
