Now he’s closer to fitness he’s back in the press, and Richard Dunne has admitted the players are ashamed of our league position.

Clearly we only need to look at the performances of the team as the season has gone on to confirm that – they’ve been right there caring haven’t they…oh no, sorry my mistake. The heart and the fight has mostly come from the youngsters whilst the seniors carried on letting us down.

But credit where it’s due I suppose, with possible relegation clauses kicking in if we go down it’s nice to know they care now.

Dunne says it’s nothing to do with that obviously, it’s about being associated with taking ‘one of the biggest clubs in Britain down’.

Speaking to the Birmingham Mail he said:

‘I can’t speak about people’s contract but the last thing on anybody’s mind is money. It’s about pride and nobody, not any player, wants this on their CV. I mean, who wants to be part of a Villa squad that took one of the biggest clubs in Britain down?’

Dunne also calls on the fans to continue supporting the team, saying the lads will fight hard in the final games as our future is in our hands, and he also praises McLeish for doing ‘as best’ and ‘as much’ as he can.

He adds the players are fully behind the manager and that we should forget the season so far, and just focus on the three games to go.

It hasn’t looked much like the players were behind the gaffer this season, so I suppose the next three games will tell us an awful lot if those are the only games we are meant to be focusing on this season.

Forum Poll – We Will Get Relegated?

ps – Dunne could be in contention for a return to the first team against WBA.
