Scott Carson has told the Guardian that he is realistic in the part he is likely to play for England in the upcoming qualifiers against Russia and Israel saying of the England goalkeeping coach ‘I think Ray Clemence has more chance of starting a game than me.’

Carson knows he is behind Paul Robinson (quite why he is being used at the moment is beyond me) and David James.

‘It should be good with England, but I think it will be mainly training for me. Ray Clemence has got more chance of starting a game than me at the moment. I’ve just got to train hard and try to push Paul Robinson and David James as hard as possible.’

A choice between Paul Robinson who appears to be eating too many pies and Calamity James (I actually like DJ!) then I’d go with Scott Carson! Good management is surely all about going for the man in form (and also in claret and blue obviously!)

It was on the advice of Ray Clemence that Carson decided to move on loan from Liverpool to Villa this summer so he can get regular first team football to push his England credentials.
