Mat Kendrick at www.birminghammail.net has had a chat with Darren Bent who is looking forward to a manager being appointed and the stability that should bring.

“Whoever gets the job I am sure will understand the passion of the club and what that means to the fans. It`s exciting. We have no idea who it will be but whoever it is I am sure they`ll come in, do a good job, take that passion for Villa and take us where we belong. There are good players and with one or two additions that the manager will have in mind I`m sure we will have a better season than the last.”

Bent hands to ears

He also admits in the interview that Villa should be nowhere near relegation battles stating emphatically “It`s not something associated with Aston Villa.”

And he is looking to get fully fit ready for next season, he says “My sole purpose now is doing well for Aston Villa,” adding that he hates being injured!

Talking about our £24million striker, Martin Laursen has told www.avfc.co.uk England`s loss this summer could be Villa`s gain next season.

He said: ‘I think having the break from playing will help Darren come back stronger next season. He will be fresh for Villa.”

Adding, ‘I am confident, with a good break, he will bounce back from his injury and play well next season. I think he will help Villa to push on next season. His goals are very important.’

He also says that Bent needs a manager brought in who wants to play ‘good attacking football` in order to help the striker become our 20 goal a season player.

With attacking football he says Bent has the quality to finish.

Amen… bring on the new season!
