Whilst other players are looking to the World Cup Wilfred Bouma, who lost his place in the Dutch national side, is looking to next August as he aims to get his fitness sorted and enjoy his first full season in the Premiership.

Bouma had several injuries including a badly injured knee which hampered his progress last season but is now looking to getting a full pre-season in and to be ready and fit for kick off.

He told the official site: ‘The injuries were frustrating last season – I think for the whole team, not just me and hopefully we will have more luck next season. Like every player, I would like to play every game next season and I am looking forward to the pre-season training. That is an important time for every player and I did not come into Villa until a month into last season. That was a disadvantage.’

‘The worst injury was the knee injury I picked up in December. That was a frustrating time, because I was starting to feel settled in the side.’
Adding

‘That’s a risk when you’re a football player, but every time you have a spell out of the team, you come back and you’re stronger. Unfortunately, these things happen and you have to live with it.’

Bouma was brought in to give Jlloyd Samuel some competition in the left back position, but if reports are to be believed, Jlloyd could soon be moving on, quite where the strength in depth will come from I have no idea.
