The rumours have all but dried up, maybe now the rumours will end and the real action will start.

The press are all over the goalkeeper stories today, they all claim that Blackburn Rovers are about to sign Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson which will give the green light for Villa to make the move for Brad Friedel. Chairman John Williams has again been quoted, this time he said: ‘We have made good progress with our bid, but there are still some details to sort out.’

Apart from that, I can only see the story that Villa are trying to hijack the Sunderland move for Spurs defender Younes Kaboul. The 22-year-olds agent had said that Kaboul wouldn’t be interested in the move even if there was an earthquake (or something as equally ridiculous) but since then the press have been suggesting he was about to move to the Stadium Of Light. The report I have seen today states: ‘PA Sport understands Villa tabled an undisclosed offer for the Tottenham man at the 11th hour with the Morocco-born player due to head for Wearside for a medical today. Kaboul has now asked the Black Cats for more time, and Keane will have to keep his fingers crossed as he looks to land his second new signing this week.’

The rest of the press talk today centres on Craig Gardner saying he can fill the right-back void and the obvious statements being picked apart by Martin O’Neill yesterday about there still being a place for Gareth Barry and that Villa would still like him to stay.

I have a source close to Villa and his cat told me yesterday that Villa are definitely set to sign at least two to three players within the next 12 months. Folks, you heard it here first, Vital Villa, always with our ears to the ground, mostly because people keep pushing us over.
