Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce and the first team boys continued their pre-season warm-up yesterday evening as we headed to the Bescot Stadium (Banks’s to keep the sponsors happy) for our latest scheduled friendly.

Having opened the game portion of pre-season up this summer with consecutive matches against Telford United and Kidderminster Harriers, a 3-0 victory and a 1-1 draw respectively, last night was another chance for players to put themselves in the shop window as they rally around the owner and help get him out of the mess he’s got himself into by making themselves more valuable…sorry…an opportunity to further build confidence and fitness ahead of the coming 2018/19 Championship campaign.

Bruce went for a strong starting line-up and ultimately that paid off as we took a 4-1 victory. Conor Hourihane hit a hattrick and Glenn Whelan got on the scoresheet for us, but Walsall did manage to bundle in a consolation.
