O’Leary travelled to Russia to take a look at some players.
He watched a match between Shinnik Yaroslavl and Spartak Moscow and admitted he was interested in one of the Spartak players.
Reports suggest he was scouting Serbia & Montenegro international defender Nemanja Vidic.
He told the Express and Star: ‘I’ve visited Yaroslavl to watch some Spartak players we’re interested in. There is one player in Spartak I’d sign now but the final decision, as you understand, will be made by our board not me.’
Spartak chief executive Sergei Shavlo said Villa had made no contact with the club about signing any of their players.
