Aston Villa star Jack Grealish continues his preparations for our return to the Premier League after the startling turn in form we saw in the second half of the 2018/19 Championship campaign that took us to Play-Off success.

With the squad out in the United State as we undergo a training camp and get all of our many newbies settled in, it was Grealish’s turn in front of the media department on Wednesday, and if I do say so myself, it was a cracking interview on the Official Site.

With Jack having a difficult summer with the expectation that he’d be sold to Spurs to keep the lights on, he admitted himself that he’d had his head turned as he resigned himself to the sale, but he certainly showed no signs of not recovering from that when he penned his new deal and his form having returned from injury was a major part in our success.

Reflecting on all of that and another bite at the Premier League cherry, he explained.

“The day we got relegated three years ago was also the day I knew what I wanted to do – get Aston Villa back to the Premier League. Looking back now at when I was 19 or 20, I maybe took it for granted and didn’t realise how lucky I was to be playing for the club in the top flight. Now, we’re back and I need to grab this chance with both hands. I want to help push this club as high as possible. To do that, I need goals, assists and performances. I want to get into the England team.”

Looking ahead to the coming year, there was again a growing maturity to the words of our skipper.

“I can’t remember a more exciting time to be a Villa fan or player. It’s the perfect scenario for me. I’ve got unfinished business with the Premier League now. I broke into the team in this league, got to an FA Cup Final and we stayed up. But that was before a terrible season. This time, I want to showcase what I can do. I can’t wait to try and do that.”

Come on Gareth…back the rhetoric up.
