Andre Green has spoken of the boost he got personally from manager Steve Bruce’s post game comments after the Wolverhampton Wanderers loss.
With Bruce admitting the showing was woeful and basically picking out Green as the bright spark given the 18 year old’s cameo appearance as a substitute in the one nil loss, Green himself was interviewed with the players back in training.
Speaking to the Official Site Green believed the praise he received would see him push on even further as he wants to play a bigger part for the club this year and get more game time under his belt to continue his own development.
‘Obviously the key point is that we lost the derby match – that was desperately frustrating for all of us. But from a personal perspective, it was good to get out there on the pitch to try and help the team. That`s the only place you can go and change things – you can`t do it on the bench – so it was great that the gaffer entrusted me to try and do that.’
Green went on to say that Bruce had been positive with him since he came through the door so he hoped given that cameo he would get a few more in the second half of the year as Villa continue to look for consistent improvement.
‘The manager has been very positive with me since he`s come in. I know that if I train well, I will be involved with the squad. There`s no grey area with him on that – if you`re in form you`ll be involved. His comments after the game have given me an added boost. I am determined to keep improving and be an important player for him as we look to move up the table quickly.’
He ended by saying that clearly improvement was required and for him he hoped it came with back to back wins and six points over the coming two Villa Park based games.
‘From a team perspective, we have two home matches coming up now and we`re determined to get back on track. It will be tough but six points must be the aim over the next two weekends.’
