While everyone is backing the team to gain promotion on Saturday week, some have been debating whether the club would retain Steve Bruce’s services if we do remain in the Championship.
With the club’s fate this season hanging on one match, things could go either way for us.
Fans on Twitter had mixed responses about the manager’s future if we were to stay down:
Sorry disagree He has old school defend tactics never a plan B. Has wasted an awful lot of money on poor players. We should have walked that league. Time for a younger manager with forward thinking ideas

Agree. Ignoring his horrific year, he’s taken a toxic dressing room & turned it into the tightest group we’ve had in years. Our most influential players were out for months at a time & he’s worked well with strict FFP. We’ll go up anyway but either way, he deserves another year.

Shouldn’t even be a debate. Answered his critics regardless of result next week. Big IN for mine

Totally Agree. I can’t even bear to think about Aladyce.

Defo. Be madness to sack him

Couldn’t agree more…no one better in my mind with a understanding of the league

I feel he should go if he doesn’t get us up I know he must of had a horrific time trying to get the team winning again and I do like him. But with the squad at his disposal we should of got top 2. Plus its not like he’s developing our youth or creating a style of play

In 12 days we lose 8 players, if we fail to get promotion could be a lot more.promotion then we need someone who can get quality young players in, 22-26 year olds. Bruce is not the right manager for that job

We have to be a little realistic, we’ve come out the dark ages after the Lerner fiasco and OK progress could have been faster but progress we have made. I’ve called 4 SBs head B4 but give him 10 games in the prem 1st and then make the judgements. Sabin57

Why keep him if he doesn’t make it? Third time lucky or strikeout?
If we are still in this league next year (crosses fingers not) we will need a better coach.
Bruce never won this league in 8 attempts. Last finished in an automatic place 5 years ago when SAF was still Utd manager— Shelley (@ShelleyOzzy) 17 May 2018
Because failing miserably is doing enough on your planet?

Verdict:
Personally, I find it difficult to look beyond the game against Fulham. The implications of either winning or losing the final are huge, and either way, there will be a lot of players moving in and out of the club.
Everyone has been behind Bruce and his team during the past few weeks, but our attitudes could be very different after the final whistle. For many reasons, the club needs to secure promotion this year, and the consequences for not doing so will be quite significant.
Hopefully then everything goes to plan, and we can look forward with excitement to the prospect of being back in the Premier League.
