The Mirror this morning are running with a story quoting Aston Villa midfielder Lee Hendrie as saying ‘I’m not happy’ and suggesting the 28 year old is looking to leave Aston Villa.

I see this report as putting 2+2 and coming up with 5. Hendrie has, over the last few weeks, expressed how disappointed he is with the season so far, he has been out of the team due to suspensions and injuries and since his return, has failed to shift Milner, Davis or McCann to re-gain his place.

Hendrie did suggest he might have to go out on loan in order to get first team football, but no deal was done before the Championship loan transfer window was closed. He is now being linked to Wolves with Glenn Hoddle admitting he admires the player, but Hendrie hasn’t said he wants to leave, he has said he wants games and would prefer them at Villa.

Reports like these turn fans against players and with his testimonial due next year, I’m sure he will only leave if it is absolutely clear that he has no further role to play at Villa.

Hendrie said: ‘Looking back over the past half season I’ve played about five games. I’m not happy. Obviously I had the knee injury, but I need games.

Hendrie got his chance against Newcastle as Milner wasn’t available for selection and O’Leary has said ‘Lee has not been out of the team because he is a bad player. He’s been out because a good player (Milner) has been playing well.’

Adding ‘I am trying to build up that level of competition for places here. That’s what I believe in. Lee has had to wait. He hasn’t moaned. He’s got on with it and I’m delighted for him. He had a chance at the weekend but I’ve also got to judge it on a lad who has been playing over a long period.’

Have your say in our latest poll. Would you sell Hendrie?
