It was just 4 days ago that I wrote an article suggestion on here, stating that I thought Heskey would leave Villa this summer with Martin O’Neill showing signs of giving up on the striker at Wembley.

Heskey was brought on for John Carew in the 82nd minute to find an equalising goal in a massive game.

Chelsea scored in the 68th minute through Didier Drogba. Then 14 minutes later Heskey came on for an injured Carew. (A forced substitution). This showed O’Neill’s lack of faith in Heskey and is no longer supporting the big man after his poor record of just 7 goals in 51 appearances.

Last night we saw a tremendous (and expected) performance from both Villa and Everton; yet again providing a great game of football to watch. That is for everyone but Heskey who had to watch young Delfouneso put on the pitch upfront in a 3 man strike partnership ahead of Emile himself (an England international). Surely now it is a matter of how much money we can get for the sale of Heskey instead of ‘are we going to sell him this summer?’

Heskey’s time is done, Harewood’s contract is up this summer and with the possibility of Delfouneso going out on loan next season, it underlines the importance for Martin O’Neill not only to extend Carew’s contract past his final year (next season) but also to purchase 2 new strikers. UTV – but from next season onwards we will be going to bigger and better places without Emile Heskey. (FINALLY!!!)
