Villa new boy Brett Holman has been voted Australia`s player of the year by their professional football association.

The 28-year-old midfielder, also won for a second year in a row the international player of the year voted for by the Australian Football Media Association.

The PFA President Simon Colosimo said; ‘Brett Holman was a standout player for both his club, AZ Alkmaar, and the Socceroos in the past year.”

Holman said: ‘I’m very honoured to receive both awards. Sorry I couldn’t make it but we’ve just added to our family.’

Holman said on signing for Villa: ‘I’m delighted to have agreed terms with Aston Villa and I am looking forward to joining up in the summer. Villa have a long and prestigious history and a fantastic set of fans.’

Barry Bannan has said that Brett Holman will add great experience and competition to the team when he joins up on a free transfer in the summer. Former Villa keeper Mark Bosnich has been talking to the Birmingham Post about our new signing Brett Holman. Bossie wants 28-year-old Holman to slot in and be the missing link for our midfield. ‘I was thinking about Brett recently when Alex McLeish was sacked and I hoped that he wouldn`t be affected. I hope he is going to be okay now with the new manager coming in because he`s a really talented player.’ The player has played as an out and out striker and also as a midfielder behind two strikers and has 53 caps for the Socceroos.
