After a nice week of rest and focus on the training ground, head coach Dean Smith took his first team squad to the Amex Stadium today, hopefully for some evening revenge against Brighton and Hove Albion.
Head coach Dean Smith went back to our assumed strongest line up with Bertrand Traore and Douglas Luiz coming back in, which was harsh on Marvelous Nakamba, but we’d see if the result backed up his choice.
Again, it was a poor start from us as we left ourselves way too open and Brighton were lively and creating the better chances, but the first 20 minutes were incredibly summed up by the lack of punishment for Dunk’s woeful (potential red card) challenge on Watkins, yet Jack gets a yellow for touching one of their players. Darren England yet again proving he’s as unfit for office as Donald Trump has been for the last four years.
For the first 45 minutes, I’ll leave my comments there, other than to say, please God let that be our “bad half”….please….really I mean, please.
How we started the second half at 0-0 was beyond me.
How we got to 70 minutes at 0-0 was beyond me, and we lost Matty Cash to what looked like a problematic hamstring injury as well.
At least Darren England continued his fine form of telling Mike Dean to hold his beer. For all it mattered, he might as well have asked Ross Barkley, he didn’t seem to be doing much else tonight.
Short of a continued Blitzkrieg from Brighton in the second half that man mountain Emi more than dealt with, there’s nothing else to talk about when it comes to the second half.
The positive lies in saying – how the hell did we take a point from that – because in some ways that shows how far we have come. We were awful, woeful, fourth best all night long and we could play for the next week and I’m not sure we’d have mustered another shot at goal, let alone on target.
We might as well have kicked the ball at Matt Targett more often to improve our stats.
