Aaron Hughes has denied that he is out for the rest of the season and has returned to training today.

Roy Aitken had countered claims that Aaron Hughes will be out for the rest of the season with knee ligament damage and has told the official site that he might in-fact be back in action on Tuesday night v Manchester City.

Aitken said: ‘Yes he did go for a scan, but the scan revealed nothing more than bruising. There’s certainly no ligament damage. He’ll need to rest for a few days and won’t train again this week, but we’ve not ruled him out of the Manchester City game on Tuesday.’

The official site now has quotes from the former Newcastle United player saying:

‘I haven’t got a clue where this story has come from, but the scan revealed no problems and I feel absolutely fine. I’m back in training now and, like the rest of the lads, preparing for a tough game against Manchester City on Tuesday.’

With news that Steven Davis and Olof Mellberg might also be fit to play a part in the remaining three fixtures (Manchester City and Sunderland at home, Liverpool away) it looks like the injury worries might be abating.
