This report won’t come as a shock to anyone. It appears that Ulises de la Cruz will be leaving Villa Park in the summer. One of many you would imagine following yet another wasted season at Villa.

He told the official site: ‘I like Villa. I like the place and I like the people but I need to be playing football. I like to play every week. and, although I respect the decision of the manager not to play me, it is difficult when I have not been involved for such a long time but I have long ago realised that my future will be sorted out in the summer.’

The player, who has only made four starts this season (replaced three times), been on the bench eleven times and coming on just three times, added:

‘I expect to speak with the manager in the next couple of weeks, when a decision will be made about what happens next but I will not think about the World Cup until the season is over. I have been more involved recently and that is good. It has been great to play again, not just for my confidence but to warm up for Germany.’

DLC had hoped to be allowed to leave in the January transfer window so he could get more games under his belt but O’Leary was at pains to keep him and also said that he’d not been approached for his services anyway!
