This report won’t come as a shock to anyone. It appears that Ulises de la Cruz will be leaving Villa Park in the summer. One of many you would imagine following yet another wasted season at Villa.

He told the official site: ‘I like Villa. I like the place and I like the people but I need to be playing football. I like to play every week. and, although I respect the decision of the manager not to play me, it is difficult when I have not been involved for such a long time but I have long ago realised that my future will be sorted out in the summer.’

The player, who has only made four starts this season (replaced three times), been on the bench eleven times and coming on just three times, added:

‘I expect to speak with the manager in the next couple of weeks, when a decision will be made about what happens next but I will not think about the World Cup until the season is over. I have been more involved recently and that is good. It has been great to play again, not just for my confidence but to warm up for Germany.’

DLC had hoped to be allowed to leave in the January transfer window so he could get more games under his belt but O’Leary was at pains to keep him and also said that he’d not been approached for his services anyway!

  • i like de la cruz i think he is a really good squad player and is a player that you can really on to a decent job when needed, so i think we would be in the wrong to sell him!!!

  • I hope that for once that we have more incoming players than outgoing, but I can’t see that happening.

  • that is the thing, we get rid of the squad players, then who do we bring in? We should have better quality than DLC but with no money to spend and no fee to command for him, how would we get a replacement?

  • Unbelievable that DO’L says the squad’s too small and then is willing to get rid of players because he’s not playing them!

  • You can understand him wanting more football but imho he is a decent squad player who rarely lets you down, but would not be a first team regular in any Prem side, a move abroad is most likely I would have thought unless he is prepared to drop a division

  • I personally dont think that he’s premiership quality, or if he is he’s never really shown us. In defence I think he’s a liability. He’s got pace going forward, but he never uses it as an advantage, and his crossing is poor. No, I wont miss him, apart fro

  • brave tale of ulises costs us a goal a game if he plays right back
i like his hair cut though, pure comedy!..
we have hughes and delaney to cover him at RB now so the only thing DOL can do is ship him out for peanuts what planning!
