Following on from my original article about the signing of Axel Tuanzebe:

There has been an interesting debate on twitter, our forum thread > 100% Villa and the article comments.

Eddy1 said “Interesting signing, looks likes he`s fast so maybe to take the ball from defence to attack quickly , we do lack speed in the defence area sometimes, now all we need is a striker to come in …. over to you good Dr.”

I added, “thinking that he will probably be holding mid role actually? And then cover if we get an injury in defence. One would assume that means goodbye to Elphick.”

Anvillan added, “I would imagine he was cover for defensive mid and defence but more likely to end up playing defensive mid. Perhaps this allows us to sell Elphick and Bjarnason now. My concern is have we promised to play him, as I`d be surprised if he want to come/be allowed to if it was only as cover, especially with other clubs interested. So then surely if he was it would be as defensive mid?! I don`t mind us being a feeder club as long as we get promoted but not if it stops the development of our own youth, i.e Suliman.”

It is an interesting point and one I was trying to make in the article, I can`t see that Manchester United would have wanted him to come on loan and just be cover.

Pride of Lions said “I think although young, he has more ‘first team’ experience at a higher level than our exciting young reserves. We don’t have a chance of buying Axel as Mourinho values him too highly, but I feel this arrangement suits all concerned parties. He’s here to help see us over the line.”

Deanovilla in the forum thread had another reading about that and Mourinho though. He said: “The chances of ANY kid breaking through at Man United under Mourinho is zero. So if we can impress him and he can impress us, so we’re in pole position when he’s shown the door… great.”

Adding, “I like the sentiment about bringing through our own kids but what if this kid is better than our own? Would you have rather brought through Luke Moore, or loaned Wayne Rooney in the hope we could make it permanent one day? If our kids are good enough great. If they’re not I have no problem bringing in other kids with better potential.”

Ali Arab questioned: “Are people forgetting we in championship. A player who is man United prospect is probably way higher then our young lads. Great business. Please a striker too. And let’s battle our way back to premier league.”

Ormskirk said: “I am inclined to agree with the original article, what I would state is our goal is promotion and although I would ideally like it to be with our young prospects, however as promotion is the short term goal and home grown talent the long term, I think this is deal is acceptable.”

jbd656 “I’m afraid our football credibility was destroyed by Lerner. Gritted teeth, Man U and Spurs have that football credibility. Seems like our academy was trashed by MON by the forced promotion of Gabby and the dismal disposal of Cahill. In the interest of getting us over the line, I can only see Tuanzebe as a back up to JT and a threat to James Chester!”

SirDennis added in the forum ‘He can also play in midfield. I wonder if we may have said. Ok we will give this lad some experience IF you let us sign Johnstone in the summer ?’

Thomas Holte, same as I speculated, said ‘I wouldn’t be surprised if he is coming in to replace Elphick being sold to some club probably in the Championship?’

And PVB68 said: It’s the modern game now and maybe the clubs that we loan out to will have fans who think the same. I couldn’t care less who helps us get out of this division and have the money to pay off Micah Richards contract.

Bodybutter added: Are we going to see him on the pitch? If so, whose place is he taking? I just don’t see the merit in this. What’s the point of bringing this guy in? Is he our 4th choice centre back or 4th choice holding midfielder?

And one gets the feeling BringBakMon isn’t entirely impressed: ‘Yep that 1 minute of Premiership league time this year will certainly help. Although he did get a game in the cocoloco cup and a chumps game) – whoopity do. So going to be experienced in sweet fa apart from reserve team football. Baffling

Starchild also said: “Initial reaction – who? Saw the name Axel thought Dr Xia had booked Guns N Roses for Villa Park gig in summer. Overall feeling about this – meh. What’s wrong with bringing through our own ‘kids’? They are already part of the set up and supposed to be our future stars or is Bruce saying they are not good enough? As has been said – I hope this is part of the deal that clinches Johnstone as our player permanent in summer.”
