Shay Given believes that young goalkeeper Benjamin Siegrist will shine on the Olympic stage in the coming weeks and justify why he is so highly rated by the club.

Speaking to the E&S Shay was very positive about Benji’s attitude as well as his talent and he believes he’s going to have a very bright future in the game.

‘He comes across as a confident sort of guy, which is what you need to be a goalkeeper, but not too confident. He’s keen to learn and he’s got little things he needs to improve on, but he knows that himself. He’s keen to listen and hopefully he’ll have a big future with us. He”s only 20 so at that age I don’t think he should expect too much, but with Terry (Gennoe) and the senior lads like myself and Andy Marshall coaching him I think he should be in safe hands.’

Last season Benji started training with Gennoe and Given and it seems the experiences of doing that, and warming up with Given pre match, has already had a beneficial impact on his progression so it would be nice to see him star at the Olympics and then get himself a loan spell this season for a taste of proper competitive football to really bring him on further.

With Given not returning until Monday because of the Euros, and with Benji heading out to join up with the Swiss team for the Ollies Andy Marshall will get a rare outing at Burton.
