The official site tonight has confirmed that French Ligue 1 side Rennes are exercising their option to complete a permanent move for our under utilised and non English speaking midfielder Jean II Makoun come the summer.
The fee is classed as undisclosed, which means we no doubt take a massive hit compared to what we paid when Gerard Houllier brought him into the club.
It will be made official on July 1.
Difficult to have many regrets here. In the games he played he showed flashes, but wasn’t consistent, yet for many his Champions League experience told us there was a player in there who just needed to adjust.
But having gone out on loan, not continued to learn our language – and then from memory work permit issues and not returning to the club – it was clear his heart wasn’t in trying for another stab at a Premiership career with us.
Has to go down as a player who ‘could’ve’ been something really.
I don’t recall him moaning about is time at Villa so for that, I wish him the best for the future. Just wasn’t apparently meant to be.
If you can’t remember who he is, have a photo – will be the last time we use it I guess.
