Paul Lambert has talked about injuries, admitted he already has his plans for January and said it’s possible the tolls of the season are starting to catch up with the youngsters.

Speaking to the Daily Mail after the Spurs result, the gaffer said when asked the question of whether it was catching up with our younger lads:

‘It may well be. I’m trying to protect them and rotate as best as I can, but it’s hard to do that because of the injuries. It won’t affect my thinking when the window opens. I know what I’d like to get and what I want to do.’

It would suggest it’s not difficult to have some sympathy with how the injuries have hit, especially those players who could have been key for us in the season so far – especially the more experienced players – but depth was a worry when the summer window closed.

It’s also not difficult to see where we need to strengthen in January. We need another reliable option upfront, we could do with a real midfield General, and we need another option in defence to marshall and get the best from Clark and Baker.

Those should be priorities in the window to give these lads the best chance possible to really grow and become the players they could be.

Over to Lambert, he’s said he still had money left from the summer, a January budget boost will no doubt also kick in now…use it wisely and we’ll be fine.
